Can you believe a small sacrifice of your time on your next vacation could have a direct impact on someone else’s tomorrow?
Are you ready to travel with purpose and transform lives? Our current cruise spotlight is Carnival’s new Fathom Impact Cruise. It’s a new kind of cruise that combines your love of travel with your desire to make a difference.
The goal is to provide travelers with the opportunity to build community with like-minded travelers, become immersed in another culture, and work alongside its people to create enduring social impact.
The seven day cruises will start in Spring 2016 with round-trip voyage from Miami to the Dominican Republic aboard the Adonia. The 704-passenger ship will include Dominican-inspired meals, including a variety of vegetarian options. There’s a pool, a gym, a games deck, even a full-sized library.
However, the ship is small enough to let you get genuinely acquainted with your fellow travelers: the people who share your commitment to meaningful transformation, the people you’ll be working alongside during your time on the ground.
All travelers will sleep on board the ship each night, so you unpack once, and you’re done. This will allow all travelers to spend their seven day journey concentrating on more important things.
In the Dominican Republic, travelers will have the opportunity to work side by side with local residents in existing programs that focus on improving the lives of children, families and communities. Fathom impact activities in the Dominican Republic include a wide range of projects focused on economic development, education and the environment. You will have the opportunity to get involved in the projects you feel the most strongly about and work directly alongside community members and partner organizations, doing what they do, helping where they need you. Some of the things you can be involved in during your trip include:
- Student English learning
- Local entrepreneurship
- Creative arts, music and sports
- Reforestation and environmental education
- Clean water access
